Larry Adrian Loftin was born on April 4, 1948 in Jefferson Davis County to Paul and Irene Evans Loftin. A graduate of Prentiss High School, afterward Mr. Loftin enrolled in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country. He, along with his wife, Sandra, was stationed in Thailand, Arkansas, and Florida. After his military discharge, Mr. and Mrs. Loftin moved to Jackson, MS, where he enrolled in the Hinds Jr. College and studied business. Mr. Loftin has been described as one having a servant's heart. This love for his fellow man was put into motion over the years as he and his wife served through the Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International (BMDMI). For many years, the Loftins fulfilled the mandate of Christ found in the Gospel of Matthew, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me", by serving those less fortunate in Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala. By sharing his skill in construction, not only were structures erected, by lives were also changed for the better. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Loftin also served on other mission trips; ministering to the Navajo Indians in Grants, New Mexico by not only furnishing food and supplies, but also bringing firewood and coats in the winter.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Prentiss and greatly enjoyed being close to his family. His wife remarks of how much he enjoyed being close to his brothers and sisters and being able to spend time with them. Many memories have been made over the past several years as the Loftins would come together to celebrate holidays, especially the tradition of gathering for breakfast on Christmas morning. In his past time, Mr. Loftin also derived a lot of pleasure from photographing wildlife. An avid reader he also enjoyed Christian literature as well as biographies. But perhaps his favorite past time was spending time in his shop. Mr. Loftin was a true wood craftsman; among the many things he fashioned was not only a bedroom suite for his home, but also an entertainment center, as well as beautiful handcrafted baby cribs for loved ones that will be cherished for years to come.
Mr. Loftin was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Irene Loftin.
His memory will live on through his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandra Tatum Loftin of Prentiss; 3 sisters, Paulette Loftin, Judy Kittrell, Brenda McNeil (Curtis), all of Prentiss; 2 brothers, Ralph Loftin (Patty) of Prentiss, Gary Loftin (Linda) of Colorado and a host of nieces and nephews.
