Funeral services for Mr. Wesley Daughdrill will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Whitesand Baptist Church with the Reverend Ted Bowlin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Daughdrill, age 77, entered into the eternal rest of His Lord Saturday morning, December 30, 2023, at the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends Tuesday morning 2 hours prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Whitesand Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers are Wesley Daughdrill, Austin Daughdrill, Brad Barnett, David Sykes, Tony Sykes and John Slater.
John Wesley Daughdrill, Sr. was born on May 6, 1946, to Claud and Louise Cole Daughdrill. Mr. Daughdrill, a lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, was a graduate of New Hebron High School. He was well known throughout the area as the owner and operator of Emmett Smith's Market for over 40 years. Mr. Daughdrill served in the Mississippi National Guard for six years, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to both his community and country.
A man deeply rooted in faith, Mr. Daughdrill was a devoted member of Whitesand Baptist Church. His proudest accomplishments were reflected in his service to his Lord as he served as Sunday School Director and Training Union Director, as well as serving as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons. His contributions also extended further as he served for seven years as the Music Director and also chaired the Building and Grounds Committee for several years. Additionally, Mr. Daughdrill had a special affinity for working with young people and taught a Young Boys Sunday School Class for a number of years. Wesley Daughdrill will be remembered not only for his significant achievements but also for the impact he made on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Daughdrill is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Betty Barnett and Nancy Sykes and by his grandson, William Turner Daughdrill.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Diane Smith Daughdrill; 2 sons, Wes (Allison) Daughdrill and Wade (Marie) Daughdrill, his grandchildren, Wesley Daughdrill, Austin (Anna Kate) Daughdrill, Ginny Daughdrill, Avery Daughdrill, Dianna Daughdrill (Tristan) Tilton, Carter Russell, Bella Russell and his great-grandchildren, Cash and Millie.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Whitesand Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
