Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Hathorn will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hathorn, age 71, passed away from this life on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Asbury House in Hattiesburg. Reverend Rob Webb, Father Mark and Reverend Tom Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Prentiss Cemetery. Saulters-Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Shelly Barnes, William King, Bill Hartzog, Ted Applewhite, John McNease, Mike Johnson, Harper Brinson and Drummonds McAlpin. Honorary bearers will be Dr. James R. Dumas, Brock Long, Moochie Speights, Dale Mullins, R. D. Polk, all players and coaches that played under him and the Knights of Columbus. Wayne Hathorn was born on November 4, 1949 in Bassfield to Willie Hathorn and Lucy Hanegan Hathorn. Mr. Hathorn was a graduate of Bassfield High School and attended Pearl River Community College. He had served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a carpenter and started Hathorn Construction in 1988 and was a member of the Home Builders Association. Wayne was very active in coaching softball and baseball teams. He was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; 1 sister and 1 brother. Mr. Hathorn is survived by his wife, Vicki Hathorn of Prentiss; 1 son, Chris Hathorn of Prentiss; 1 granddaughter, Ava Lucy Hathorn; 3 brothers, Richard Frank Hathorn of Bassfield, Jeff Hathorn of Bassfield and Billy Hathorn of Petal; 6 sisters, Glenda McRaney of Bassfield, Beverly Jackson of Bassfield, Martha Daley of Bassfield; Denise Dyess of Sumrall, Susan Hathorn of Hattiesburg and Ann Hathorn of Ellisville; brother-in-law.
