Tommy Bass

Funeral services for Mr. Tommy Bass will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Lowland Cemetery. The Reverend Eddie Hartfield will officiate, assisted by Reverend Ken Roberts and Reverend Everette Broome. Mr. Bass, age 80, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord late Thursday evening, March 20, 2025, at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The Bass family will receive friends Saturday, beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 1:00 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mr. Bass’ grandchildren will honor him by carrying him to his final rest; they include Tanner Stuart, Riles Stuart, Hunter Courtney, Trevor Courtney, Hayes Stuart, Carson Stuart, Cooper Loflin and Carolyne Loflin.

Thomas G. Bass was born on June 15, 1944, in Columbia, MS, to Major Thomas Earl and Thelma Freeman Bass. A devoted family man, Mr. Bass completed his education and soon after married the love of his life, Carolyn, with whom he raised three daughters in Bassfield. The family life he nurtured was filled with warmth and love, laying the foundation for cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Bass founded Bass and Associates, where he worked for many years as an oil and gas Landman.

Mr. Bass played a prominent role in founding Columbia Academy. His commitment to the school's success was unwavering; he previously served as a teacher and coach, leading the team to their first state championship. His influence extended beyond coaching; he is also credited with helping to select the school’s mascot and colors, establishing a proud identity for generations of students to come, including six grandsons-and now a great-grandson.

His hobbies were as diverse as his interests. An avid and skilled golfer, he thrived in the camaraderie of the sport. He enjoyed competitive card games such as Pinochle and Black Rook, yet his spirit of fun extended to friendly games of dominos with his friends, where laughter and stories were shared with joy.

However, without reservation, his proudest accomplishment was being a loving Pappy. His devotion to his grandchildren knew no bounds as he attended countless sporting events, often juggling game schedules to ensure he could cheer for each of them. He meticulously kept a spreadsheet over many years, documenting the games he attended, a testament to his pride in each of them and the joy they brought to his life.

Mr. Bass was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, but attended Greens Creek Baptist Church.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Major Thomas Earl and Thelma Bass.

His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carolyn Bass of Bassfield; 3 daughters, Trudi Loflin (Dan) of Pisgah, Joy Courtney (Scott) of Bassfield, Holli Stuart (Anthony) of Carson; 2 sisters, Karen Loftin (Rev. Charles Lee) and Carol Jenkins, both of Bassfield; 2 brothers, Charles Bass (Natalee) of Jacksonville, FL and Gary Bass of Bassfield. The legacy of their Pappy will also live on through his grandchildren, whom he adored, Tanner Stuart (Sol), Carolyne Loflin, Riles Stuart (Skylar), Hunter Courtney, Trevor Courtney (Chloe), Hayes Stuart, Carson Stuart, Cooper Loflin and his great-grandchildren, Raymon, Geni, Leo and Woodsyn.

Thomas G. Bass's legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, and community leader. He will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered for his unwavering support of both his family and the institutions he cherished.
