Thomas Bass

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Rex Bass will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday morning, December 11, 2023, at the New Hebron Methodist Church with interment following in the Whitesand Cemetery.  The Reverend Mike Dubose will officiate.  Mr. Bass, age 76, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Friday, December 8, 2023, at his home in New Hebron.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Monday, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at New Hebron Methodist Church.

Serving as Pallbearers are Thomas Tarver, Cabe Banes, Barry Banes, John Turnage, Albert Fortenberry and Robert Fortenberry.  Honorary Pallbearers include Robert Winter, Ryan Winter, Chase Waltman, Kolton Owen, Dalton Winter and Matthew Bass.

Thomas Rex Bass was born on May 21, 1947 in Jefferson Davis County to Hiram Spurgeon and Peggy Buckley Bass.  He graduated from Prentiss High School and Pearl River Junior College.

He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served as an Army Combat Medic in the 11th Armored Calvary, where he earned the rank of SP5 (T). While enlisted, Mr. Bass was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Medic Badge.  He retired from Tri State Brick and Tile Company in Jackson, MS.

On March 10, 2001, he married Linda Carol Riley.  Together, they made their home in New Hebron, MS, where they enjoyed the country life.  Their hobbies were gardening, camping, fishing and especially spending time at home with each other.

Thomas was a big football fan and adored all of his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He knew the Lord and held a deep love for his Heavenly Father.  He loved his home church, New Hebron Methodist, where he served in different roles throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Spurgeon Bass.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Riley Bass; his mother, Peggy Bass; 1 brother, Donald Bass (Colleen) and 1 sister, Lynne Banes (Barry); 4 children, Teresa Cain, (Victor) of Vicksburg, MS, Robert Winter, Jr. (Kristi) of Grenada, MS, Michelle Owen (Brian) of Maben, MS and Ryan Winter of Charleston, SC; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to New Hebron Methodist Church.
