Sedgie Bruce Rowley was born on August 25, 1928 in Marion County to John and Josephine Foil Rowley. Mr. Rowley was raised in the Darbin Community, where working on the family dairy farm instilled in him not only a strong work ethic but also a love for animals. Mr. Rowley married his beloved wife, Jewel, and together, they settled in Oakvale, where they raised their family. After working on the family dairy farm for a period of time, he later transitioned to a career at the New Orleans Furniture Factory in Columbia, where he devoted over 30 years of service until his retirement.

A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Rowley bravely fought for American freedom during the Korean War.  Throughout his life, Mr. Rowley's fondness for animals was legendary. He often reminisced about his horse, Champ, and throughout the years, he cherished every animal he owned, including chickens, ducks, quail, and goats. His family affectionately remembers that no stray dog remained a stray for long when it came to Runt, who welcomed any animal in need with open arms. Mr. Rowley was a member of the Oakvale Baptist Church.

Mr. Rowley is preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Rowley; his wife, Jewel Rowley; son, Michael Rowley; sisters, Ida Copeland and Ovie Morgan; brothers, J.C. Rowley, Carroll Rowley, Hugh Rowley, Doyle Rowley and his grandson, Corey Tidwell.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Anita Rowley Carney (Jeff) of Columbia and his son, Gary Tidwell (Carolyn) of Oakvale. The legacy of their Pawpaw will also live on through his grandchildren Cole Carney (Faith), Keely Bush (Stephen), Kristin Hughes (Broc), Justin Tidwell, Scott Tidwell, Erica Tidwell and Jacob Tidwell. Mr. Rowley also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
