Russell was born on April 27, 1957, in Marion County to J.C. Micky and Ella Stephens Williamson. A lifelong resident of the Oakvale community, he was a graduate of Prentiss High School. Russell was a hardworking man and spent his career as a crane operator at the Mallard Drilling Company and the Noble Drilling Company. Russell was talented in the kitchen, and his family will long remember the wonderful family get-togethers where his Chicken and Dumplings and chicken and sausage gumbo were always in high demand. In addition to cooking for his family, Russell also liked to watch college football. However, his greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren he adored. Mr. Williamson was a devoted member of Society Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Russell is preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Ostheimer and Sonja Kroner, and his brother, Evin Williamson.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Crystal Williamson Buckley (Jason) of Braxton; sisters, Vicki Robbins and Mary Lou Vice, both of Oakvale and his brother, Elbert Williamson of Purvis. The memory of their Pawpaw will also live on through his grandchildren, Bailey, Avery, Paige, Parker, Hayes, Ella Kate and an expected great-granddaughter in March, Raelynn.
