Roosevelt was born on July 1, 1955, in Lampton/Columbia MS to Fred and Clara Brown and was affectionately known throughout his entire life as "Tango" by family and friends. He came to know the Lord as a child while attending New Zion United Methodist Church in Lampton/Columbia, MS.
Tango attended East Marion Public Schools and graduated from East Marion High School in May of 1973. He moved and settled down in Oakland, CA, where he met and married Stephanie Brown. To this union, they were blessed with 2 daughters, Edie Brown, Nina Bennett and 1 son, Roosevelt Brown, Jr. (aka: Belt).
To know Tango was to love him. He enjoyed having good times and wherever he went, he was the life of the party. Everyone who knew him could count on him to be present at events on or off the clock, telling witty jokes. He loved family gatherings and hanging out with his many cousins and friends. Throughout his life, Tango maintained his relationship with God and was a member of Brookins AME Church in Oakland, CA.
Tango was a man of many skills and hobbies, including fixing and re-building old school cars, cooking, making his own moonshine, taking road trips, and attending car shows. His greatest pastime was spent at the ranch, where he had an affinity for horses that started as a child with his father. He was a true Black Cowboy and a member of the Black Cowboy Association. He loved spending time with the fellas at the ranch; they weren't just friends; they were a group of brothers. Tango also had a love for his dogs, cats, and horses. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masons.
In 2015, Tango found love again and married his beautiful wife, Loleatha Edmond. To this union, 4 additional children were added. After retiring from the City of Oakland, CA in 2019, they relocated to Byram, MS. He was home again and loved every moment of it. Retirement was good; he had a beautiful home and a loving family that he always wanted. He was back with his brothers again, just like old times. Tango traveled back and forth from Mississippi to California, always supporting his children, grand and great-grandchildren.
Tango is preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Clara Brown; sister, Selena Rose and brother, Joseph Brown.
His is survived by his wife Loleatha Brown; children, Shekerra Price of Columbia, Venetia Bennett (Charles) of Columbia, Edie Brown of Discovery Bay, CA, Roosevelt Brown, Jr. (Jessica) of Fairfield, CA, Nina Bennett (John) of Woodbridge, VA and Arian Brown of Hayward, CA; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; additional blessings: Volita, Taneya, John, Jr., and Terrance, along with 10 more grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Fred Brown, Kaiser Brown (Gwen), Carl Brown (Linda), Ronnie Brown (Janie); sister-in-love, Mary Jane and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all deeply miss him.
