Robert Glenn Miller was born on November 3, 1947, in Jefferson Davis County to John Boyd and Presley Mae McRaney Miller.
Raised in Prentiss, Robert graduated from Prentiss High School, where he also played football. These formative years laid the foundation for a life packed with ambition and dedication. Following in the footsteps of his father, who founded the Prentiss Butane Company in the 1950s, Robert joined his brother, David, in taking over the family business. Their leadership and commitment to the company flourished until its successful sale in 2015.
Throughout his life, Robert was not only dedicated to his profession but also to his civic duties. He proudly served the town of Prentiss for 24 years as an alderman and held the position of Mayor Pro Tem. His commitment extended further as he was a former member of the Board of Directors for Prentiss Christian School. His influence within the community is a testament to his character and dedication to fostering a better environment for all. In addition, Robert proudly served in the Army National Guard and later transitioned to the Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant (E7) after a commendable 24 years of combined service. His military service exemplified his dedication to his country and his unwavering spirit.
A man of many interests, Robert was known for his adventurous spirit and zest for life. He held a love for aviation and was a licensed private pilot, and his athleticism was evident through his participation in four marathons. He embraced life’s adventures alongside his beloved wife, Carol, as they traveled on their Honda Goldwing, exploring destinations like the Smoky Mountains and other local attractions. Not one to shy away from a thrill, he even marked his 60th birthday by going skydiving, embodying a life filled with excitement and joy.
Robert will also be remembered warmly for his generous nature. He had an extraordinary ability to make those around him feel valued and appreciated. A cherished memory of him was how he would try and return gift cards to the giver, hoping they would use the card to purchase something for themselves. His caring demeanor extended to every aspect of his life, especially in supporting his family. Whether cheering on his children and grandchildren at football and basketball games or attending dance recitals, Robert was always present, creating a loving environment filled with encouragement.
Having previously served as a deacon at Bethany Baptist Church, Mr. Miller had served his Lord for the last many years as a faithful member of Prentiss Presbyterian Church, where he also served as a deacon.
Mr. Miller is preceded in death by his parents, John Boyd and Presley Mae Miller and his infant daughter, Melanie Lynn Miller.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 18 years, Carol Miller of Prentiss; daughter, Dana Ervin (Sam) of Prentiss; sons, Todd Miller (Stacy) of Wiggins, Russ Miller (Jodi) of Prentiss; brother, David Miller (Marsha) of Prentiss and his sister, Marilyn Polk (Doug) of Jackson, TN.
