Marilyn Brumfield Mullins was born on December 4, 1946 in Lincoln County, MS to Sandy and Mildred Seab Brumfield. Graduating from Bogue Chitto High School, Marilyn continued her education at Co-Lin Jr. College and The University of Southern MS, where she obtained her college degree. She spent most of her teaching career at New Hebron School, where she not only taught for many years but also coached girls' basketball for over 40 years.
Her warmth extended beyond the classroom as Marilyn's true happiness blossomed when she was serving others. A talented cook, her church community knew that Marilyn's table was always open for Sunday dinners. Whether it was her famous fried chicken, homemade dressing, or potato salad and coleslaw, each dish radiated not just with flavor but also with love and joy.
A beacon of selflessness, Marilyn's family fondly recalls her inclination to give without expecting anything in return. Her generosity knew no bounds as she would readily offer her last $5 to a complete stranger, embodying compassion and kindness in its purest form.
About two years ago, Marilyn found a new purpose at the Beehive Assisted Living facility in Brookhaven. Transforming her room into a sanctuary of music and love, she became a pillar of support for fellow residents. Through teaching Sunday School classes and sharing her favorite songs from The Gaithers and Squire Parson, Marilyn created a haven where everyone felt welcomed and cherished. Her room not only offered an abundance of snacks but also a comforting presence that drew residents seeking solace and encouragement.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mullins is preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Mullins; her son, Will Mullins; her daughter, Mandy Clark and her siblings, J.J. Brumfield, Sam Brumfield, Pete Brumfield, Joe Brumfield, Sis Boyt, Laura Ruth Alexander and Dwayne Brumfield.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Sandy (Scott) Hunt and Cindy (Charles) Welch, both of New Hebron; sisters, Cheryl Alexander, Irene Bagget and her brother, Ed Brumfield, all of Bogue Chitto. The legacy of their Maw-maw will also live on through her grandchildren, Taylor Speights, Colby Mullins, Anthony Hunt, Josie Clark, Cameron Welch, Casey Hunt, Carson Welch, Caden Welch, Emmy Clark and Cailey Welch.
