Margaret was born on January 9, 1936, in Tylertown, MS to James Alnie and Eva Ellzey Johnson. At the heart of Margaret’s life was her devotion to her family. She married Lynn Dykes, and together they raised their children with boundless love and commitment in Collins, MS. Margaret was a nurturing soul, always putting others first, embodying the true essence of compassion that many found themselves drawn to.

Though her journey took many turns, Margaret held tightly to a dream that began in her heart long ago—the dream of becoming a nurse. With determination and an unwavering spirit, at the age of 40, she took the brave step to enroll at Jones Junior College, followed by the University of Southern MS. Her commitment to her studies was evident as she excelled in her coursework and proudly achieved a spot on the President’s List. After earning her Bachelor’s degree and becoming a Registered Nurse, she dedicated herself to caring for others as the Director of Nursing at the Petal Convalescent Home, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and expertise.

An active member of the New Chapel United Pentecostal Church for many years, Margaret enriched the lives of others through her God given musical talent. She played the accordion and also sang with the Travis family in the Gospel Tones Trio, sharing her love of music with her congregation and community.

Mrs. Dykes is preceded in death by her parents, James Alnie and Eva Johnson and her husband, Lynn E. Dykes.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Darlene Dykes Sistunk (Dale) of Pearl; sons, Marty E. Dykes (Sheila) of Brandon, Andy E. Dykes (Michelle) of Byram; grandchildren, April L. Dykes, Brittany Blanton (Elijah), Blake Beane, Clint Sistrunk (Paulina), Carson Sistrunk, Hunter Sistrunk, Savannah Hicks (Ryan), Reggie Dykes and her great-grandchildren, Kennedy Orr, Sully Blanton, Memphis Hicks and Sonorah Hicks.
