Maggie Bridges Mahaffey was born on October 11, 1923 in Jefferson Davis County to Hiram G. and Minnie Mae Jackson Bridges. The first of six children, she lived most of her life in Jackson and Richland, Mississippi. As a young girl, Maggie faced significant challenges from an early age. The loss of her mother at just nine years old thrust her into the role of primary caregiver for her siblings. With nurturing love and grace, she embraced this responsibility, becoming a surrogate mother who cherished and guided her siblings through their formative years. This early experience laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Mrs. Mahaffey pursued her education and earned her degree, ultimately becoming a licensed practical nurse. She dedicated many years of her life to the field, serving at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson and at Jefferson Davis County Hospital, as well as home health care.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Mahaffey was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church in Braxton.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands Clarence Monroe Harthcock and Josie Mahaffey; brothers, Charles, Johnny and Harvel Bridges; sister, Nancy Hawthorne; sons, John and Billy Harthcock and granddaughter, Charity Harthcock Lamb.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her sons, Gilbert (Anita) Harthcock, Nelson (Gisela) Harthcock; sister, Rose Cordray; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
