Lynn Everett Dykes was born on May 18, 1932 in Tylertown, Mississippi to Moland V. and Lynnie L. Wilkes Dykes. Growing up working on the family dairy farm in Walthall County, Mississippi, Lynn learned the values of perseverance and commitment early on. His education continued as he graduated from Progress High School and then bravely enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving his country with pride for 4 years.
During a leave while enrolled in the military, Lynn would take the beautiful Margaret Johnson to be his bride. To this union would be born 3 children, with additions of in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren which would complete the happy family. After living in Vicksburg for a short while, the couple would move to Collins, where they remained for many years and raised their children.
His children fondly recall memories of their father patiently teaching them important life skills - from riding a bicycle to swimming in the creek, and eventually guiding them behind the wheel of a car. Described as consistent and unwavering in his devotion to God, his beloved wife, his children, and his work, Lynn was a pillar of strength for all who knew him. His love for life shone through in every interaction, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Mr. Dykes was a professional truck driver and after a long and fulfilling career at Miller Transporters, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and loyalty. He was a member of New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dykes is preceded in death by his sister, Joan Dykes Crawford and his brothers, Moland Van Dykes, Jr., Larry Wilkes Dykes, Lucion “Randy” Dykes and Doyle Drennon Dykes.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of over 60 years, Margaret L. Dykes of Pearl; his daughter, Darlene Dykes Sistrunk (Dale) of Pearl and 2 sons, Marty L. Dykes (Sheila) of Brandon and Andy E. Dykes (Michelle) of Byram. Mr. Dykes was also “Papa” and “Pappy” to his grandchildren, April L. Dykes, Brittany Blanton, Blake Beane, Clint Sistrunk, Hunter Sistrunk, Carson Sistrunk, Savannah Hicks, Reggie Dykes, and his great-grandchildren, Kennedy Orr, Sully Blanton, Memphis Hicks and Senorah Hicks.
