Joyce Smith Moore was born on July 13, 1931 in Jefferson Davis County to William Carey and Ruth Mae Dyess Smith. Before moving back to Prentiss in 1994, Joyce and her late husband John had many happy years in the log home they built for themselves in Ruston, LA. Having a flair for fashion and accessories, Joyce also worked for many years in the lingerie department of Lewis and Company in Ruston. In addition, she immensely enjoyed her manicured yard where she grew many beautiful flowers. Another of her passions was collecting antique furniture. Joyce will also be remembered as a great cook; she was known not only for her fried chicken, but also her gumbo and delicious dressing she made for the holidays. She was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, John Moore after 22 years of marriage; her parents William Carey "Kelly" and Ruth Mae Smith, and also a brother, Kendall Lamar Smith. Left to cherish her memory are 2 sons, Raymond Ellis Broome of Prentiss, Gregory Alan Broome (Marla) of Carson and also 2 sisters, Mary John King of Prentiss and Bettye Jean Dearman of Yazoo City, MS.
