Johnny Burt Williams was born on February 22, 1937, in Pontotoc County, Mississippi to Edward Earl and Hazel Todd Williams. It was at Hurricane High School in Pontotoc County where he met his bride, the beautiful Bonnie Warren, who he affectionately referred to as “Bunt.” Their marriage in 1958 marked the beginning of a wonderful partnership that would last for decades. In 1967, the couple, now with two children, moved to the Jackson area, where they continued to build their life together. Johnny worked for many years as a diesel mechanic before retiring from Complete Auto Transit.
Johnny’s family was his pride and joy. He cherished moments spent with his grandchildren, each holding memories that will now be stored away in the memory vaults of their hearts. Whether fishing at their pond, hand grabbing for catfish, or time spent at the deer camp on the Big Black River, their "Paw" made each one feel like they were his favorite. His grandchildren were truly the apple of his eye. However, they all lovingly agree that the arrival of his precious great-granddaughter, Anna Leigh, brought a new light to his life, placing her at the center of his heart.
In addition to enjoying hunting and fishing, he will also be remembered as a skilled woodworker who could make nearly anything and had the talent to fix nearly anything. In addition, he will also be remembered for his unwavering love, strength of character, and the mark he left on all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him will continue to live on in the memories shared by his family and friends. Mr. Williams was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Church of Jackson.
In addition to his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie “Bunt” Williams; son-in-law, Edwin Fortenberry; and his brothers, Phillip David Williams, Edward Earl Williams, and Bobby Joe Williams.
His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Bonita Fortenberry of Terry; and his son, John Williams (Gigi) of Rockledge, FL. The legacy of their Paw will also live on through his grandchildren, Matt Fortenberry (Victoria), Thomas Fortenberry (Destiny), Lauren Fortenberry, Michael Fortenberry, Jeremiah Williams, Joshua Williams, Jacob Williams, and his great-granddaughter, Anna Leigh Fortenberry.
