Funeral services for Mr. John Allen Flynt, of New Hebron, will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday morning, August 3, 2022 at New Hebron Baptist Church with interment following in the New Hebron Cemetery. Reverend Mike Grenn and Reverend Earl Clark will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at New Hebron Baptist Church. There will also be a visitation Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the funeral service from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Don’t be saddened by the absence of my earthly body. See me in the eyes of the wife that I loved. Look for me in the faces of the children that I raised. Listen to the memories that my grandchildren will share. See me in the talented athletes I coached and mentored, and reminisce with friends and acquaintances I was blessed with through my journey. John Allen Flynt, known as Coach to most, entered this life on March 8, 1932, in Mt. Olive, Mississippi, to proud parents Eldry Thomas Flynt and Delia Herrington Flynt. He claimed his home in glory in the early morning of July 31, 2022, surrounded by his faithful family. Coach lived a full and faithful life following God’s direction. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School in 1951, upon which he joined the Air Force and bravely served our country for four years. After Coach’s discharge from service, he attended Jones County Junior College and Mississippi College. He received his Bachelor of Science in 1958 and a Master's in Education in 1965. On June 30, 1960, Coach took the hand of a beautiful Home Ec teacher, Janice Quin Kelly, in marriage. While his teaching career began in Florence, Mississippi, he and his bride would make New Hebron their home from 1960 until the present. While making their home within the community of New Hebron, Coach began his stellar career as a teacher, bus driver, coach, mentor, and administrator. In 1966 he became the school's principal while continuing his coaching responsibilities. He held these roles until his retirement from the school system in 1995. As a coach, teacher, and administrator, Coach touched many lives. He built relationships with his athletes, students, and staff. His investment in the lives of his students and athletes propelled some of them to new heights after graduating high school. He expected the best and was given the best out of respect. Coach was recognized for his dedication on the football field many times throughout his coaching career. He was selected as an assistant coach in the Mississippi All-Star game in 1966 and held the honor of being the first 1A coach to be chosen as the head coach of the Mississippi All-Star game in 1982. Coach served as the president of the Mississippi Association of Coaches from 1980-1981 and was inducted into the Mississippi Coach’s Hall of Fame in 1987. Coach’s godly impact did not limit itself to the football field or school hallways. He sat on the board of the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village, was instrumental in bringing Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the state of Mississippi while serving on their board, and served as the president of the New Hebron Development Corporation. Coach and Janice were co-owners of the Tri-County Grocery Store that served the community for many years. God and faith were the cornerstones of Coach’s life. He raised his children to follow God’s direction and demonstrated his strong faith to his grandchildren while battling Parkinson's for 18 years. Coach remained active in New Hebron Baptist Church as long as the Lord allowed. He taught Sunday School, led as a deacon, enjoyed singing in the choir, served on multiple committees, and participated in numerous mission trips. Coach loved the outdoors. He received his first shotgun and bird dog in 1948. This hobby would lead him to places all over the United States. He was well-known as a trainer of English Pointers for the purpose of hunting and field trials. Many hours were spent, and memories were made following bird dogs across Mississippi and as far as West Texas in pursuit of the perfect covey of quail. Coach also enjoyed annual beach trips with the whole family, riding the waves and breaking out the dominos with the sons and grandsons. Pallbearers are Coach’s grandsons, Evan Flynt, Joshua Flynt, Tyler Flynt, Hayden Flynt, Austin Teater, Drew Teater and Tanner Flynt. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Myron Lee Sunday School Class members. John Allen Flynt is preceded in death by parents, Eldry Thomas and Delia Herrington Flynt; sister, Marge Cloer; and brother, George Flynt. Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Janice Kelly Flynt; sons and daughters-in-law, Kelly and Jennifer Flynt of New Hebron; and Tim and Sherri Flynt of Huntington, Texas. Daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Chad Teater of Magee, and youngest son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Jessi Flynt of West Point. Eleven grandchildren survive Coach; Ethan, Joshua, and Tyler Flynt of New Hebron; Hannah, Hayden, and Halle Flynt of Huntington, Texas; Austin, Lauren, and Drew Teater of Magee; and Tanner and Caroline Flynt of West Point. Long-term Caregiver, Fannie Dora Moore, who the family cannot thank enough.
