Hazel Massengale Smothers

Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Massengale Smothers will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home, with interment following in the Calvary Cemetery in Silver Creek, Mississippi. Bro. Darren Clark will officiate. Mrs. Smothers, age 89, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord late Saturday evening, January 25, 2025, at the Lawrence County Nursing Home in Monticello. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The Smothers family will receive friends Friday afternoon, January 31, 2025, from 12:30 PM until the time of service.

Mrs. Smothers will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers; they include Mike Zachary, Riley Clark, Chris Royer, Adam Kirby, Terry Frisenda, and Cary Frisenda.

Mrs. Smothers was born in Clinton, TN, to Robert H. and Dollie Sharpe Massengale. She was a resident of Pensacola, FL, and dedicated her entire career to bookkeeping, lending her expertise to Jones Flooring, Big 10 Tire, and Warrington Jewelers. Her commitment to her work exemplified her meticulous nature and strong work ethic. Additionally, she enriched the lives of young people as a Cub Scout Leader, reflecting her nurturing spirit and dedication to the community

A woman of many interests, Hazel found joy in various activities. She relished sewing, enjoyed shopping, and loved spending time playing cards, particularly the game May I, as well as Yahtzee. These pastimes not only brought her happiness but also served as opportunities to connect with family and friends 

Above all, Mrs. Hazel loved her family immensely. Her devotion extended especially to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. The bonds she forged with them will resonate through generations, a testament to her enduring spirit and loving nature.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dollie Sharpe Massengale; husband, Delbert Eugene Smothers; sisters, Edna Carter, Betty Byrd, and Nancy Frisenda; and brother, Leon Massengale.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her son David Allen Kirby (Janice) of New Hebron and daughter, Debbie Smisek (Rick) of Silver Creek; stepson, Steven Smothers (Cheryl) of Pensacola FL; stepdaughter, Theresa Knight (Mike) of Moyock North Carolina;  grandchildren, Shannon Clark (Darren) of Prentiss, Micky Smisek (Lexie) of Gainsville FL. Adam Kirby (Kim) of Jacksonville, FL, Jessica Zachary (Mike) of Jayess, and Lindsay Smothers of Arlington, VA. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Sidney Royer, Anna Zachary, and Audrey Zachary, Isabella Clark and Riley Clark, Ava Kirby and Kate Kirby, and great-great-grandchildren Easton Royer, Holt Royer, and Nova Royer.
