Gregory Allen Broom was born on January 19, 1954, in Jefferson Davis County to Ellis A. and Joyce Smith Broome (Moore).
After graduating from Prentiss High School, Greg embarked on a successful career as a Seismographic Driller. His skills and expertise in the field led him to found Broome Drilling Company, from which he later retired. Greg's professional journey was one of resilience and determination, as he consistently sought to provide for his family and contribute to his community.
Outside of work, Greg found joy in the great outdoors, particularly through hunting and fishing. As a skilled welder, Greg frequently lent his abilities to friends and neighbors, assisting them with various projects. One of his greatest passions, however, was cooking. At the heart of Greg's life was his deep love for family, particularly the close bond he shared with his late mother, Joyce. Together, they spent countless hours baking pies and cakes for holiday celebrations, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. These moments not only showcased Greg's passion for cooking but also highlighted how integral family was to him. In addition, He was well-known for his beloved Buttermilk Pie, Shrimp Dressing, and Chicken & Sausage Gumbo. These dishes also became staples at family gatherings. Mr. Broome was of the Baptist faith.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis A. Broom; his step-father and mother, John and Joyce Smith Moore, and his brother, Raymond Broome.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 27 years, Marla Thetford Broome of Carson; sister-in-law, Martha Jones of Prentiss; niece, Nealie Bryant (Wade) of Prentiss; nephew, Grant Jones (Sarah) of Brandon; great-nieces, Chainie, Emmie, and Delta; and great-nephew, Eli.
The Broome family also wishes to express its appreciation to Greg's nurses at Amedisys Home Health Care for their compassion and care over the years.
