Funeral services for Mr. George Neil Davis will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon, July 23, 2023, at the Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Daniel R. King Cemetery in Bassfield. The Reverend Timothy Leggett will officiate. Mr. Davis, age 87, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Tuesday evening, July 18, 2023, at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The Davis family will receive friends Sunday, July 23, beginning at 1:00 PM until service time at 2:30 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
Serving as Pallbearers are Jeff Hudson, Jason Easterling, Vic Green, Brandon Hudson, Ethan Easterling and Joseph Easterling.
George Neil Davis was born on April 29, 1936, in Bassfield, Mississippi. To Austin and Neida King Davis. Following his graduation from Carson High School, Mr. Davis enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served his country honorably and was stationed at Kaiserslautern, Germany. After completing his military service, Mr. Davis pursued higher education at the University of Southern Mississippi. There, he displayed great determination and enthusiasm by pursuing a double major in Business Administration and Marketing.
Upon his graduation from USM, Mr. Davis began his career with the General Electric Corporation as a Field Representative. His commitment to excellence led to promotions throughout the years until he ultimately reached the esteemed position of Branch Manager. During this time, Mr. Davis oversaw the opening of several offices across different locations, spanning from Texarkana, Texas to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 1985, after many successful years with General Electric, Mr. Davis embarked on a new career path as a Sales Representative for various furniture manufacturers. Despite this being a new venture for him, he continued to serve his customers with the same level of dedication and excellence they had come to expect from him.
Beyond his professional endeavors, George Neil Davis had a zest for life that extended into his recreational pursuits. His children warmly recall their father being a passionate runner, running five miles every morning – defining discipline and a strong will. Cycling also held a special place in Mr. Davis' heart; he spent countless hours riding on the Longleaf Trace. His astounding achievements included cycling over 1,000 miles on his speed bike and an additional 3,000 miles on his recumbent bike – indicative of his unwavering determination and endurance. One of Mr. Davis' most cherished pastimes was spending time at the old family homeplace affectionally known as "The Farm" in the Santee Community. This special place allowed him to connect with nature and experience tranquility. He was also a member of Oak Grove Church in Hattiesburg.
George Neil Davis leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and professional pursuits. His children will fondly remember him as not only a loving father but also an inspirational figure who taught them the value of perseverance and dedication. Mr. Davis will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Neida Davis; sisters, Juaneese McNease, Mary Joyce Davis and his brother, James Wright.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 65 years, Janice Broome Davis of Hattiesburg; daughters, Janet Hudson (Jeff) of Sumrall, Jennifer Easterling (Jason) of Hattiesburg, Julie Green (Vic) of Brandon; sister, Jean Davis Crockett of Hattiesburg and his grandchildren, Brandon Hudson, Katelyn Hudson, Ethan Easterling, Joseph Easterling, Emily Green, Ella Green and Elise Green.
