Erma Johnson

September 29, 1942 — December 12, 2023

Prentiss, MS

Funeral services for Erma Dell Ables Johnson, 81, will be conducted at 11 A.M.  on Friday, December 15, at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roland McMillan and Reverend Jessie Holloway officiating.  Interment will follow in the Prentiss Cemetery.

Erma passed away on December 12, after a nearly twenty-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.  She died in her home surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends Friday morning; beginning at 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service at 11:00 A.M. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home

Erma was born on September 29, 1942, to Doyle and Tenalia Ables of Calhoun County Arkansas.  She spent most of her early years in Camden, Arkansas, attending Fairview High School where she met the love of her life, Jimmy.  They married in 1961, moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Erma became a stay-at-home wife and mother.  The family moved to Prentiss, Mississippi, in 1968.  Erma went to work for Saulters-Moore Funeral Services in 1982 and retired from there after 25 years of service.

Erma spent her life giving tirelessly to others.  She loved encouraging people by sending cards, and she could always be counted on to provide her wonderful cakes for funerals and church events.  For years, Erma worked in church as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, and a church clerk, among many other roles.  She spent her life sharing her love for Christ.

Erma is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jimmy, her daughter Dana Newsom (Tony), her grandson Cort Newsom (Morgan), and her precious great-granddaughter, Hadley.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

The family would like to thank the kind nurses from Forrest General Hospital’s Hospice Service, the members of Prentiss Baptist Church, and the countless members of our community who have offered prayers and support.  A special thank you goes to the CNAs from Quality Personal Care Sitters, Brittainey Hooker, Jessie Oatis, and Felicia Otis, for their exceptional care in Erma’s final days.
