Dorothy Carolyn Rube, was born June 24, 1931 to L. M. Sr. and Marye Purvis Rube. She attended New Hebron School and graduated in 1948. At a young age she worked with her brother Bunks in their parents’ theater/café, The Carolyn Theater. Dorothy always said she flipped a many a burger and Bunks ran the projector for the films. She spoke lovingly of her memories of those times and the opportunities of meeting new people. There was a very special place in her heart for her brother Bunks and spent many mischievous days playing on the Pa Purvis’ farm. She attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College before she married the love of her life, Cooper Sharp. They owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store in New Hebron and served many local patrons. Along with working at the store she was his help-mate on their cattle farm.
In September of 1950, Dorothy and Cooper welcomed their first son Cooper Alexander (Rickey) Sharp, then in 1953 their son William Cooper (Randy) Sharp was born. Dorothy was a life-long member of New Hebron Baptist Church, always volunteering in any area where she was needed. Cooking was definitely one of her many talents and she was known for her delicious chocolate cakes, which she made for family and friends and church functions and any special occasion. She loved seeing the smiles when people saw her “Dorothy Cake”.
She was a member of the “Threads of Memories” quilting group who were always known for the expert stitching and dedication to what is now becoming a lost art. Just recently, Dorothy sewed 30 little stuffed dolls to send on a Mission Trip to Peru, always thinking of what she could do for children.
After the sale of their grocery store in 1980, she was employed in the cafeteria at New Hebron Attendance Center, where she loved interacting with the children with a smile on her face. She was the epitome of Barnabus in the Bible, always an encourager and her home was always open to friends and relatives and a few stray dogs and cats.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Cooper Sharp; her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, L. M. Jr. and Peggy (Newsom) Rube, son Rickey Sharp and former daughter-in-law Janet Dunagan Schmidt.
