Dorothy Christine Broome

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Christine Broome will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday morning, April 29, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church in Bassfield with interment following in the church cemetery.  The Reverend Ken Roberts will officiate.  Mrs. Broome, age 94, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Wednesday evening, April 26, 2023, at her home in Bassfield.

The Broome family will receive friends Friday evening, April 28, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.  Mrs. Broome will also lie instate at Bethel Baptist Church, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Dorothy Christine Broome was born on August 9, 1928, in Jefferson Davis County to Luther and Rosa Welch Blackwell.  Mrs. Broome, a life-long resident of this area, worked in several garment factories throughout her life.  She and her husband Olice raised a wonderful family, to which 3 sons were born, along with additions of in-laws and a host of grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.  Her family remarks that she took great  pride in maintaining her yard and that she also received a lot of pleasure from feeding feral cats.  Mrs. Broome loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.  She will be remembered as an excellent cook and was known to always prepare plenty of food, ensuring that each family member had their favorite dish at family gatherings.  Among the bounty of food that would be prepared, her family always looked forward to not only her fried chicken, but also her chicken and dumplings; however, the one thing that everyone seemed to enjoy the most was her chocolate pie.  She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many.  Mrs. Broome was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Rosa Blackwell; her husband, Olice Broome and her son, Ray Broome.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her sons, Harold Broome of Petal, Jerry Broome (Christine) of Villa Rica, GA and her sister, Mary Helen Ward of Carson.  The legacy of their Granny will also live on through her 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
