Sidney Lane

Graveside services for Mr. Sidney Lane will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Prentiss Cemetery. Reverend Tim Sorey will officiate. Mr. Lane, age 83, passed away on his birthday, Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the Covington County Hospital in Collins. Mr. David Sidney Lane was born on March 29, 1939, in Prentiss, MS to Arnold and Hilda Cone Lane. He retired after over 30 years of service with Shell Oil Company as a crane inspector and operator. One of his hobbies was riding motorcycles. Another of Sidney's passions was crafting walking sticks, for which he gathered wood from all over to use. Sidney would allow the natural curvature of the root to serve as the handle of the walking stick while the remainder of the shaft would be carved and polished into a thing of beauty. Many of Sidney's friends have been gifted one of his canes through the years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Saratoga. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Hilda Lane, his daughter, Gina Renee Martin and a brother, Marcus Lane. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Zera Lane of Prentiss; his son, Jeffery Lane (Angie) of Prentiss and a brother, Hilton Lane of Oxford, MS.
