Daniel Austin Bates

Mr. Daniel Austin Bates, age 75, passed away late Friday night, March 1, 2024, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.   A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
 
Mr. Bates was born on November 28, 1948 in Meridian, Mississippi to Jesse Jefferson and Willie Opal Daniel Walden Bates.  Daniel was a man of exceptional character and unwavering dedication.   A man who had a big heart, Daniel was always willing share his talent as an electrician to help friends and neighbors.  His legacy is etched in the kindness he shared and the light he brought into this world.
 
After graduating high school, Daniel proudly enlisted in the United States Army.  His tour of duty during the harrowing years of the Vietnam War showcased his bravery and valor. Decorated with prestigious honors such as the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal, Daniel exemplified courage in the face of adversity. His unwavering dedication to his country and fellow soldiers was a true testament to his noble spirit.
 
After his military service, Daniel continued to serve in another capacity - this time as an electrician for British Petroleum (BP). His contributions were invaluable, and his professionalism earned him respect and admiration from all who worked alongside him. His retirement marked the end of an era but left behind a trail of excellence that will be remembered for years to come.
 
Beyond his professional achievements, Daniel enjoyed manicuring his pristine yard and indulging in the joy of landscaping. As a devoted New Orleans Saints fan, he enjoyed the game of football and loved to cheer his team on to victory.  Daniel was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his sons, Shawn Bates and Michael Cole Sanders.

His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Melinda Sanders Bates of Hattiesburg; his son, Christopher Daniel Sanders of Mozelle and a host of friends.
