D B Burkett

Funeral services for Simpson County centenarian, Mr. D B Burkett, will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, April 21, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Simpson County. Reverend Mike Sutton and Reverend Don McClellan will officiate.  Mr. Burkett, age 104, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Friday morning, April 18, 2025, at his home in New Hebron. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening, April 20, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mr. Burkett was born on April 28, 1920 in Simpson County to James Lee and Ona Buckley Burkett. He attended school at Bridgeport and New Hebron. Afterward, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a WWII veteran.  Mr. Burkett worked for garment and furniture factories before going to work for Mississippi Dept. of Transportation, where he retired.  While working he also raised cattle. He attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth, in 2004; sister, Dorothy Morse, and brother, Burnell Burkett.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Fay Burkett Herrington (Mark) of Silver Creek; his grandchildren, Shelly Herrington of Silver Creek, Mindy Herrington Sanders (Jonathan) of Brandon, Aaron Herrington of Canton, and his great-grandson, Seth.
