Betty Joe Brister Alexander

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Joe Brister Alexander will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Calvary United Pentecostal Church with interment following in the Calvary Cemetery. The Reverend James Johnson will officiate, assisted by Bishop Ray Bowling. Mrs. Alexander, age 78, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Wednesday morning, September 25, 2024 , at the Magnolia Village in Natchez. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The Alexander family will receive friends Saturday, September 28, beginning at 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM at Calvary United Pentecostal Church. 

Betty Joe Brister Alexander was born on August 16, 1946, to Charles Ray, Sr. and Josie King Brister and graduated from Salem High School in Tylertown. She and her husband, Benny would go on to establish a happy home in Natchez where they would raise their children. While in Natchez, Mrs. Alexander faithfully served her Lord at the First United Pentecostal Church, where she led the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Some years later, she, her husband and son would embark on a new chapter in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, where they resided for 32 years; before returning to their roots in Natchez, which held special memories for both of them.

Described as having a servant's heart and a nurturing spirit, Mrs. Alexander embodied the qualities of both Mary and Martha as depicted in the Gospel of Luke, gracefully balancing her ministry of a doting hostess and a faithful servant. Her family relates that their mother proudly kept a collection of cards detailing past engagements; each complete with the name of her dinner guest and the dishes served as she endeavored to appease the palate of each person - which were often ministers - who graced her table. In addition, her children also hold sweet memories of their birthdays; each celebration steeped in her thoughtful care, where the honored child would choose their favorite dishes, lovingly prepared by their mother.

Christmas and Thanksgiving were particularly joyous occasions for Mrs. Alexander, when her home transformed into a sanctuary of festivity and warmth. Family and friends gathered around her table adorned with her signature dishes, each one born of her hands, symbolizing her love and affection. Her legacy of fabulous cooking will live on through her unforgettable Red Velvet Cake and Caramel Cake, which were not just desserts but symbols of her dedication to those she loved.

Mrs. Alexander is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ray, Sr. and Josie Brister and her brothers, Karl and Wylie Brister.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her beloved husband of 60 years, Benny E. Alexander, Sr. of Natchez; daughters, Sharon Alexander Frank (Johnny) of Natchez, Cathy Alexander Cates (Keven) of Lucedale; son, Benny E. Alexander, Jr. (Deanna) of Goodlettsville, TN; sisters, Margrit Brister Wallace (Marlin) of Madison, Mary Catherine Durr Shilling (Dennis) of Ethel, LA, Charlene Brister Mott of Cutoff, LA, Barbara Brister Thomas (Harold) of Magnolia and her brothers, Charles Ray Brister, Jr. (Wanda) of Gloster, Bobby Durr (Betty) of Oakvale, Leonard Durr (Jo) of Florence, James Brister of Jayess and Larry Joe Nichols (Shelby) of Pearl. 

The legacy of their Nana will also live on through her grandchildren, Stephen Frank, Alex Frank (Brooke), Carson Alexander, (Melanie), Emily Cates, Amanda Cates, Lauren Cates and Claire Alexander and her 3 great-grandchildren, Xander Frank, Mason Frank and Blair Alexander.
