Alene D. Smith was born on December 18, 1924 in Jefferson Davis County to Bobby J. and Anita Branton Daniels.
Born in an era in when modern conveniences were scarce and hard work was a way of life, Alene grew up in a period where resilience and perseverance were valued above all else. She spent long hours alongside her family picking cotton and tending to their crops, learning the value of hard work and dedication from an early age.
Despite the challenges of a simple, yet difficult period in history, Alene still managed to attend school at Oakvale and her graduation spoke volumes of a strong work ethic that was evident throughout her life.
One of Mrs. Smith's proudest accomplishments was creating a warm and welcoming home where love flowed freely and joy abounded. Her Sunday dinners were a highlight for her family, who gathered around her table to savor delicious meals, with everyone's favorite being her famous Apple Tarts. The love and care she poured into her cooking reflected the deep affection she held for those around her. She was a member of Hepzibah Baptist Church where she had been active in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU).
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Smith; her brothers, Robert Daniels and Glynn Daniels along with her sisters, Myrtle Smith and Lou Jean Harvey.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Sheila Smith Ward (Mickey) of Jacksonville, FL; her 2 sons, Kenneth L. Smith (Pam) of Oakvale and Mikell L. Smith (Teresa) of Monticello. The legacy that their Mamaw leaves behind will live on through her grandchildren, Kristen Troy, Bobby L. Smith, Kendra L. Smith, Deanna J. Parker, Shelly J. Saul, Nicole Jensen, Daniel Smith and 13 great-grandchildren.
