Vester R. Sullivan, Jr.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Saulters Moore funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Vester Sullivan, Jr., age 83, of Bassfield, MS who passed away December 3, 2010 at The Windham House in Hattiesburg, MS. Interment followed at Sullivan’s Cemetery. Rev. Charles Loftin officiated. Pall bearers were Richard Sullivan, Doug Ford, Chris Lea, Dave Sullivan, Mike Sullivan and James Ray Applewhite. Mr. Sullivan was born on May 29, 1927, the son of Vester Sullivan, Sr. and Bertha Broome Sullivan. Vester was self-employed most of his life owning and operating Sullivan’s Grocery and Bassfield Feed Mill, in Bassfield, MS, and Sullivan’s Grocery in the Bethel community. He was a hog and cattle farmer and owned several tomato-producing greenhouses. He took great interest in the community, serving on the Jefferson Davis County School Board for a number of years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Other interests included travel, fishing, enjoying nature, and spending time with his dogs that were always by his side. Vester was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bassfield, MS, Pastor Charles Lee Loftin and wife, Karen, were very special friends. He very much loved and enjoyed all his church family. He was loved and respected by his wife and children and all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. He would willingly give to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank all for their love, support and prayers during the past few months. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Beedie Roberts Sullivan; four children, Allan Sullivan and wife, Sheila, Kokomo, MS; Elaine Sullivan, Madison, MS; Delores Sanders, Madison, MS, and Debbie Touchstone, Hattiesburg, MS; his brother, Bobby Sullivan and wife, Sarah, Bassfield, MS, sisters-in-law, Annita Applewhite, Bassfield, MS, Hilda Roberts, Hattiesburg, MS, and Gene Roberts, Largo, FL; five grandchildren, Steven Sullivan of West Hollywood, CA, Chris Lea, Ridgeland, MS, Katie Lea, Hattiesburg, MS, Sarah Sanders, Madison, MS, Sandy Federowski and husband, Ed, Hattiesburg, MS; four great grandchildren, Shaelin and Ashton Lea, Brittney and Jamie Federowski; and twenty-two nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dale and Arvest Sullivan, and sister, Audell Ford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Bassfield, MS.
