Funeral services were held, Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Charles Ralph Smith, USCG RET, age 82, of Greens Creek Community who passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Interment followed at Old Greens Creek Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Woolwine officiated. Pallbearers were Joshua Speights, Noah Speights, Cooper Bryant, Chris Bryant, Mitchell Payne and Derek Almen. Mr. Smith was born on September 4, 1928 in Jefferson Davis County to Mack C. Smith and Nellie Dyess Smith, the youngest of nine. He retired from the United States Coast Guard, and was a member of Old Greens Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Marlene and his beloved dogs: “Moe” and “Pee Wee”; two daughters: Sharon M. and husband Bobby McKibbin and Karon A. and husband Monty Bryant all of Panama City, FL; Eight grandchildren: Joshua and Helen Speights of Alexandria, VA; Noah C. and Giovana Speights of Atlanta, Ga; Nicole B. and Mitchell Payne of Crawfordville, FL, Cooper Bryant of Bethesda, MD, Amanda & Derek Almen of Fort Wainwright, AK, Chris Bryant of Panama City, FL; Hannah A. and David Hood of Panama City, FL, Zach McKibbin of St. Mary, GA; Three great-grandchildren: Jada B. Payne and Natalie Payne of Crawfordville, FL, Carter Hood of Panama City, FL ; Brother-in-law, Charles L. and wife Joan Hansen of Protage, IN; Sister-in-law, Lynn Svetkovich and husband Joe of Chicago, Il; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Charles and Marlene spent 55 years enjoying life and traveling around the U.S. in a long and distinguished career with US Coast Guard. After retirement he enjoyed working in his yard with his 2 dogs alongside him. He was a very loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending a lot of time with the grandchildren. He especially loved riding them on his 4-wheeler.
