A Memorial Service was held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Clydel L. Burford. Rev. Dudley Williamson officiated. Private interment followed in Society Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Clydel Langston Burford, age 89, quietly and peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 21, 2010, in The Woodlands, Texas. Clydel was the first of four children born to Volney Beckner and Hattie Weatherford Langston on December 20, 1920 in Oakvale, MS. Clydel graduated from Clinton High School and attended Hillman College and Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, where she played basketball and coached high school basketball. At age 20, she moved to New Orleans, LA with her family and married Bertrue G. Burford. She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, New Orleans for 60 years where she was a Bible Class teacher. In 2000 she became a charter member of Faith Baptist Church, New Orleans. In 2002 she moved to Brandon, FL, and in 2006 to The Woodlands, TX. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, candy making, crocheting and knitting. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, brother, Carlos C. Langston of Gulfport, MS, sister-in-law, Clara P. Langston of Oak Vale, MS and brother-in-law, Elis B Geiger of Metairie, LA. She is survived by her sons, Thomas V. Burford and wife, Valerie, of Spring, TX, and Clyde L. Burford and wife, Yong Suk, of Brandon, FL; Brother, James V. Langston of Oak Vale, MS and sister, Jeanell L. Geiger of Metairie, LA, sister-in-law, Katherine N. Langston of Gulfport, MS; Grandchildren: Vanessa Burford of Metairie, LA, James Burford of Brandon, FL, Janice Burford of Brandon, FL and Stacey Tinken-Skinner and husband, Jamie Skinner of Gillette, WY; Great grandchildren: Jordan and Preston Potter of Gillette, WY, and Juliet Gibson of Brandon, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to send their appreciation to Woodlands Healthcare Center, Heart to Heart Hospice and Dr. Sabuga-Chan for the care they provided.
