Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Melrose William Steinhauer, Jr. age 64, of New Hebron, MS who died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Hospital in Jackson, MS. Rev. Earl Clark and Rev. Adam Wyatt officiated. Interment followed with Navy Honors in New Hebron Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers were Fred Sykes, Dalton Barnett, Austin Jonakin, Michael Merrell, Curtis Feazell, and Glen Turnage. Honorary Pallbearers were John Stygar, Fred Newsom, Dick O’Donnell, Tommy Smith, Robert Riggle, and Mark Mangum. Melrose William Steinhauer, Jr. better known as Mel, was born May 16, 1946 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He was the son of Melrose William Steinhauer, Sr. and Virginia Kathleen Mueller Steinhauer. Mel retired after 37 years as a Carman with IC/CN Railroad. He was a US Navy Veteran and also served with the Army National Guard in the 106 Forward Support Battalion. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Steinhauer is survived by his wife, Madlin Carol Shows Steinhauer of New Hebron, MS; one daughter, Tina Marie Steinhauer Jonakin of Richland, MS; one son Anthony Dion (Tony) Steinhauer of Hattiesburg, MS; his mother, Kathleen Steinhauer of IL; three sisters: Pearl French, Marilyn Slone and Geraldine Riggle, all of IL; a brother, Joseph Steinhauer, also of Illinois; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
