A Funeral mass was held Monday, March 15, 2010 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Magee, MS for Mrs. Yvette M. Berry, age 86, of New Hebron, MS who passed away March 12, 2010 at her residence in New Hebron. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery. Father Brian Carroll officiated. Pall bearers were Adam Rittenhouse, Paul Foster, Barney Lane, Billy Little, Brian Little and Glenn Browning. Mrs. Yvette Marie Morin Berry was born June 9, 1923 in Duluth, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry Morin and Cora Perreault Morin and was raised in Duluth and St. Paul. Heeding her country’s call during World War II, she headed west to work for the government in Richland, Washington. There she met her husband of 64 years, Laney A. Berry, of New Hebron, MS. They remained in Washington for the next 20 years and all of their seven children were born there. When Laney retired in 1973, they moved to New Hebron to make their permanent home there, while spending their summers at Yvette’s family homestead on Cadar Lake, Minnesota. Yvette was active in the Catholic Church, both in Minnesota and Mississippi. She loved the outdoors, enjoying God’s hand in the wonder of nature. With the magic of her touch, she helped plants grow in spaces where the earth was bare before. She respected all things living, tended her flowers, nurtured her berry patches and let nothing go to waste. Skilled in needlework, she created works of art in her crocheting and quilting. Yvette’s greatest gift was her unconditional love for her family, her utter devotion to her husband, Laney, and her children. Her patience, her thoughtfulness, her selflessness, the strength of her convictions, her hopes for peace and justice in the world are what we will try to take unto ourselves so that Yvette will live on through our humble acts on this earth. Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband, Laney A. Berry of New Hebron, MS; a son, Lupe Berry of Pearl, MS; four daughters, Suzanne Rittenhouse of Bellevue, WA, Lynn Pierle of Port Townsend, WA, Beatrice Chavez of Yakima, WA and Tammy Browning of Aitkin, MN; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons and a sister.
