Mayor Buford C. Blount

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Faler Park in Bassfield, MS, for Mr. Buford Charles Blount, II, Ret. Colonel USAF, age 87, of Bassfield, who died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. Rev. Steve Tillman and Rev. Glenn Shows officiated. Interment followed at Bassfield Cemetery. Saulters-Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss handled arrangements. Serving as Pallbearers were Bassfield Firemen and New Hope Firemen: Avery Jones, Michael Davis, Dickie Davis, Robert Maudlin, B.J. Wilson, Zack Jackson, Jason Wambolt, and T.J.Davis. Buford Charles Blount II, was born on December 31, 1921 in Bassfield, MS. He was the son of Estes N. Blount and Mary Hathorn Blount and was the youngest of four children. He was a member of Bassfield Methodist Church. He retired as a Colonel with the US Air Force after serving 28 years. He was a US Veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam. Mr. Blount was elected Mayor of Bassfield in 1973 and was currently serving in his ninth term. Mayor Blount is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cecil Glenn Blount of Bassfield; two sons: Ret. Major General Buford C. Blount III and wife Anita of Hattiesburg, MS; Robert D. Blount and wife, Georgette Thabault of Burlington, VT; three daughters: Susan Stacy of Madison, MS; Gigi Blount of Jackson, MS; and Lisa Blount of Bassfield; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers, and one sister. Memorials may be made to the Buford C. Blount II Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Regions Bank.
