Funeral Services for Mr. Harmon Broome will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Broome, age 80, passed away from this life on Tuesday, October 24 in Prentiss. Reverend Jimmy McGee will officiate and Patricia Williams and Tena Bass will provide the musical service. Interment will be in the McPhail Cemetery. Saulters-Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Serving as Pallbearers will be Collins Barnes, Patrick Barnes, Connor Barnes, Barrett Barnes, Brady Barnes and David Sides. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Thompson and Jacob Thompson. Harmon Carey Broome was born on August 24, 1937 in Carson to Claude Broome and Zudia McPhail Broome. He was a retired from Southern Natural Gas Company after a 34 year career. Mr. Broome was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the Mississippi Army National Guard. He had served as an Alderman for the Town of Prentiss and a Supervisor for Jefferson Davis County. Mr. Broome was a business owner, a member of the Jefferson Davis County Chamber of Commerce, and was a board member for the South Mississippi Planning and Development District. Harmon Broome was a member of the Prentiss Lions Club and Prentiss Baptist Church. Mr. Broome was preceded in death by his mother and father; his son, Todd Carey Broome; one sister, Nell Hannaford; and two brothers, Ellis Broome and Dennis Broome. Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Rachel Polk Broome of Prentiss; 1 daughter, Debra Broome Mullins (Anthony) of Hattiesburg; 3 sons, Shelly Barnes (Vann) of Prentiss, Kelly Barnes (Tina) of Mendenhall, and Johnny Barnes (Robbie) of Decatur, AL; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Johnson Broome of Prentiss; 11 grandchildren, Patrick Barnes (Lindsey), Connor Barnes (LeighAnn), Joseph Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Collins Barnes (Shobi), Barrett Barnes, Brady Barnes, Sydnee Rachelle Durham, Adlee Nichole Durham, Carrie Nicole Broome, and Chrysten Rachelle Broome; 4 great-grandchildren, Baylor Barnes, Amelia Barnes, Micah Thompson, and David Thompson; 4 brothers, Charles Broome of Madison, Algie Broome of Madison, Ken Broome of Carson, and Carroll Broome of Durham, NC; 2 sisters, Gladys Tyrone of Vestavia Hills, AL. and Janice Davis of Hattiesburg; as well as a host of other family and friends.
