James Harlon Martin

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. James Harlon Martin, age 90, of Collins, MS who passed away September 15, 2009 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Internment followed at Green’s Creek Cemetery in Carson. Rev. Wayne Woolwine and Bro. Rob Webb officiated. Pall bearers were Donald Martin, Daniel Martin, Michael Martin, Jeffery Broome, James Roberts, Marty Copeland and Tommy Martin. Mr. James Harlon Martin was born on February 16, 1919 in Lamar County Mississippi. He was the son of Harmon Martin and Norma Broome Martin. He was a carpenter by trade and a farmer. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member and deacon of Green’s Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Martin is survived by a son, Kennith Martin of Lenoir City, TN; three daughters, Shirley Roberts of Mt. Olive, MS, Jeanette Copeland of Ellisville, MS and Barbara Broome of Carson, MS; stepson, Douglas Polk of Collins, MS; stepdaughter, Sonja Broome of Collins, MS; three sisters, Lois Bedwell of Port Arthur, TX, Hazel Bullock of Columbia, MS and Dorothy Jean Riley of Columbia, MS; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of fifty-one years, Delphie Mae Dyess Martin, his second wife, Mary Lee Polk Martin, three brothers, two sisters and a great-great grandchild.
