Lela June Bullock passed peacefully from this life at her home on Bullock Hill on May 24, 2017 at the age of 89. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home. Rev. Kelly Wheat and Rev. Benji Sessums officiated. Pallbearers were Gary Wheat II, Will Coleman, Joseph Bullock, Tyler Bullock, Brannon Graves, Michael Sasso, Austin Moore, Jeff Freeman and Troy Trout. Internment followed at the McPhail Family Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Mrs. Bullock was born on March 6, 1928 to Clarence and Lela Gertrude Garner Smith in Sumrall, MS. Her family later moved to Carson, MS where she was a 1947 graduate of Carson High School. In December of 1947, she married the love of her life, Joe Bullock. Together they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. They were blessed with six children-all of who were Mrs. Bullock’s prized possessions. She spent her days making her house a home for anyone who entered. She cooked large meals of homegrown vegetables, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, homemade rolls and so much more. Her table was always full and her front door was always open. She devoted her time to her family. She was the definition of the Proverbs 31 woman. Her green thumb was evident by the bright and beautiful blooms found in her yard. She worked tirelessly tending to her flowers. Mrs. Bullock was also an important part of the work done on the family farm. She stitched the seams of her family together-keeping them well fed and, most importantly, loved. When she would stop to rest in the evenings, she and Mr. Joe would sit in the den and listen to music on the radio while watching the sunset over the family farm. She loved her home and her life on Bullock Hill. Mrs. Bullock was a member of Carson Baptist Church. She is survived by her six children; Charlotte (Gary) wheat of Prentiss, Arhonda (Bill) Coleman of New Albany, Martha (George) Stegall of Pontotoc, David (Kathy) Bullock of Prentiss, Greg (Mitzi) Bullock of Prentiss and Joe (Cassie) Bullock of Prentiss; ten grand- children and twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Hathorn of Carson and one brother, Jeff Smith of Carson. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin brother Clarence Smith, Jr. and granddaughter Shelly Jo Coleman Trout.
