Maurice C Smith

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Greens Creek Baptist Church in Carson, MS for Mr. Maurice C. Smith, age 78, who passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 at his residence at Oak Park Arms Retirement Home in Oak Park, Illinois. Rev. Wayne Woolwine officiated. Pall bearers were Cecil Anderson, Ashley Stuart, Willie Ray Dyess, Bradford Barrett, Joey Barrett and Ray Smith. Maurice was born October 11, 1930 in Carson, MS. He graduated from Bassfield High School in 1948 and attended Business College in Missouri. He worked for many years in the accounting department of Sinclair Oil Company in Chicago, IL before having to retire because of bad eyesight. He was a lifelong member of Greens Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his dad, Mildred T. “Bill” Smith in March 1974, his brother, Jackie D. Smith in December 1978, his brother-in-law, L. C. Gaughf in November 1996, his mother Katie Belle Dyess Smith in February 2001 and his sister-in-law, Lucele Smith Jayroe in February 2006. He is survived by one brother, Norris E. Smith (Faye) of Oakvale, MS; one sister, Martha Gaughf of Jackson, MS; one uncle, Charles Ralph Smith (Marlene) of Oakvale, MS and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greens Creek Baptist Church, C/O Mrs. Agnes Bahm, 94 Joe Dyess Road, Carson, MS 39427 or to your favorite charity.
