Todd Broome

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Saulters Moore Chapel in Prentiss, for Todd Broome, 48, who passed away Nov. 23, 2016. Interment followed in Carson Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss handled all arrangements. Reverend Ben James and Dr. French Tripp officiated. Pallbearers were Brian Magee, Wes Daughdrill, Shannon Dunn, Allan Carter, Stan Jones, Gary Holman, Steve Graves, and Jerry Puckett. Cary Todd Broome was born on June 15, 1968, in Prentiss to Harmon and Patricia Polk Broome. After graduating from Prentiss Christian School in 1986, he attended Jones County Junior College for two years. He was manager of Kinney Shoes in Jackson and Leon’s Shoe Store in Hattiesburg, before returning to Prentiss. In 1992, he opened Prentiss Pawn & Equipment Rental and Quick Cash. Shortly thereafter, he bought the Triangle Café and operated it for approximately 14 years. Broome was also the owner of Radio Shack, Quick Cash Super Pawn & Equipment and Quick Cash in Magee. Along with the Prentiss and Magee businesses, he owned Foxworth Pawn & Trade in Foxworth. Through the years, he owned and operated Quick Cash stores in Collins, Columbia, Monticello, and Laurel. Broome served as an Alderman for the Town of Prentiss for over seven years. While an alderman, he earned the certified municipal official status. He was a longtime sponsor of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and coached and sponsored Jefferson Davis County Youth Sports softball teams for over 10 years. Broome served as a member of the board of directors of the Jefferson Davis County Economic Development Committee, the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District and Prentiss Christian School. He was a lifelong resident of Prentiss and an active member of Prentiss Baptist Church. Broome was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack Bailey. He is survived by his wife Sonja Johnson Broome of Prentiss; two daughters, Carrie Broome and Chrysten Broome, both of Prentiss; his mother, Patricia Bailey of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his father and step-mother, Harmon and Rachel Broome of Prentiss; three step-brothers, Shelly Barnes of Prentiss, Kelly Barnes of Mendenhall, and Johnny Barnes of Decatur, Alabama; two half-sisters, Debra Mullins of Hattiesburg and Candy Bailey of Prentiss; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
