Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Bassfield Baptist Church in Bassfield, MS for Mrs. Phyllis Diane Holland, age 64, of Bassfield, who passed away June 13, 2009 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Internment followed at Bassfield Cemetery. Rev. Ken Roberts, Rev. Steve Tillman and Bro. J. C. Moore officiated. Pall bearers were Chad Graves, Marcus Graves, Brad Thompson, Allen Thompson, Chuck Holland and James Graves. Mrs. Holland was born in Moss Point, MS on November 9, 1944 the daughter of A. C. and Malva Bilbo. She was a teacher at Sumrall High School for fifteen years. She was also a member of Bassfield Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Holland was a devout Christian woman who touched many lives through her courage and strength. She never lost her faith while fighting a three year battle with cancer. She is with her Lord and Maker and in a better place where we shall be with her again someday. She is survived by her husband, Jerry C. Holland of Bassfield; her mother, Malva Bilbo of Jackson, MS; son, Curt Holland and wife Melisa of Hattiesburg; daughters, Lydia Perren and husband, Johnny of Hattiesburg and Lynn Moore and husband, James of Forest; brother, Aven Bilbo of Meridian; sisters, Gloria Thompson of Bassfield and Jane Mauzey of Erwing, TN; and four grandchildren, J. C. & Branden Moore, and Lauren & Alex Perren. She was preceded in death by her father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
