Funeral Services were held Thursday May 19, 2016 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Lethel Dykes, age 86, who passed away on May 16, 2016 at the V.A. Retirement Home in Collins, MS. Interment followed in Greens Creek Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Ben James officiated. Pallbearers were: Robert Jones, Clint Langley, Eddie Dale, Zach Daley, Jim Parkman and Rudy McNease. Mr. Lethel was born January 21, 1930 in Carson, MS. He was the son of Hulon “Babe” Dykes and Irma Prine Dykes. He worked as a truck driver for Stamps lumber Company but most of his career was spent serving our country. He entered the Army in 1949 in Hattiesburg, MS and was honorably discharged in 1953. Then he entered the Air Force in 1954 in Jackson, MS and after re-enlisting he was honorably discharged in 1968 as Staff Sergeant from active service. Then becoming a Technical Sergeant he retired with over 20 years of service in 1971. During those years he received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Good conduct Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He loved to go to Bluegrass Festivals. He is survived by one of the most kind and loving persons I have ever met, his wife of 25 years, Carol Dykes of Prentiss, MS; his son, Aaron Dykes and daughter Susan Broome both of Columbia, MS. his Step daughter Shirley Lawrence of Jayess, MS; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister, Maxine Bryant of Petal, MS.
