Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am. Monday May 9, 2016 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Velma Ruth Hutchinson Wilson, age 87 of Bassfield, MS, who passed away May 6, 2016 at Magnolia Place Retirement Home in Sumrall, MS after a long battle with Alzheimer Dementia. Burial followed in Bassfield Cemetery in Bassfield, MS. Reverend Ken Roberts officiated. Pallbearers were: Johnny Bass, Jeffrey Wilson, Charles Broom, Brian Herrington, Willis Robbins and Freddie Green. Velma was born September 27, 1928 in Jefferson Davis County. She was the daughter of Joe and Lea Anna Hutchinson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Carley B. Wilson, four brothers Rufus Hutchinson, Clifton Hutchinson, J.P. Hutchinson, and Bruce Hutchinson; and two sisters Bertha King, and Alva Whitehead; and a grandson Jeremy Wilson. Those left to miss her and cherish the memories are her daughter Janette Green and husband Freddie; her son Michael Wilson and wife Kathy; grandchildren Rhonda Herrington and husband Brian; Jeffrey Wilson and wife Maggy and great grandchildren Colin and Grace Herrington and many nephews and nieces; and her best friend Tennie Ivy and her children Wayne and Elaine who called her Aunt Velma. Velma was a member of the Bassfield Baptist Church. Velma was a Homemaker and loving mother. She was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors. She would make sure adults got coffee, sweet ice tea and boiled peanuts; and kids got kool aid with sweets. Her favorite thing was to spoil grandchildren. Later in life at Magnolia Place Velma sat near the front door and gave out compliments along with I love you to everyone who entered Magnolia Place. A grateful and special thank you goes out to Magnolia Place Staff, Dr. Rebecca Jameson and staff, and Southern Care Hospice for the love and special care provided Velma during the last 6 years of her life. Also, thank you to Bo Haden and Sumrall Pharmacy Staff for taking care of her medicine needs. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to Bassfield Baptist Church, Mississippi Hospice and the Alzheimer Association.
