Funeral services were held Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Whitesand Baptist Church in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Hiram Spurgeon Bass, age 86, of Newhebron who passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Internment followed at Whitesand Cemetery. Rev. Charles Burnham, Rev. Mike Dubose and Mitchell Roberts officiated. Pall bearers were Cabe Banes, Matthew Bass, Elijah Merrett, Jay Bass, Robb Winter and Kermit Buckley. Honorary pall bearers were Thomas Tarver and the Deacons of Whitesand Baptist Church. Mr. Bass was born September 8, 1922, the son of Martin Bass and Mary Holyfield Bass. He was a Supervisor with Newhebron Manufacturing for 30 years. He also liked to farm and worked at the ASCS Office. He was a member and deacon at Whitesand Baptist Church. He served with the US Coast Guard during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Bass of Newhebron; two sons, Thomas Rex Bass of Newhebron, Donald Glynn Bass of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Lynn Banes of Newhebron; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Mary Loftin of Charlotte, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three half-brothers.
