LTC Charles Rex Holland Passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 with his loving wife Lura of 76 years by his side. Charles was born October 29, 1919 to the late Julius and Flora Holland in Bassfield, MS. He was the youngest of seven children. He entered the Army in 1939 where he proudly served for 23 years obtaining the rank of LT Col. He had earned the Bronze Star, Two Purple Hearts, Legion of Merit, Army Accommodation Medal, European Theater of Operation with 4 Battle Stars, Pre Pearl Harbor Medal, American Defense Medal, National Defense Medal, WW II Medal, Army of Occupation Germany, Army of Occupation of Japan, Military Engineer medal, Presidential Unit Citations for his service in both WWII and the Korean War. He met and married Lura Lee Baker of Prentiss, MS on December 29, 1939 and had two sons, Jimmy Harold Holland (deceased) and Charles Rex Holland, JR. They travelled all over the world in his time in the army from the United States to Japan. He made friend s with many of his fellow service men an stayed in contact with them and frequently held reunions in their home in Satellite Beach where he retired in 1962. He is survived by his true love, Laura Lee Holland, son, Charles R. (Sandi) Holland, Jr. four grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering followed by a short service was held on December 2, 2015 at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL. Graveside services with full military honors was held December 9, 2015 at Bassfield Cemetery In Bassfield, MS Interment followed immediately after service. His son Jimmy was also laid to rest there.
