Our beloved mother and grandmother, Evelyn Eloise Allen Burch, died on a peaceful afternoon at Highland Lake on November 24, 2015. A daughter of the South, she was born in Prentiss, Mississippi, on September 18, 1924, and was buried there in a graveside service in the Tyrone family plot of the Brady Cemetery on November 27. Dr. French Tripp of the Prentiss Presbyterian Church officiated; Saulters-Moore handled the arrangements. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-one years, William Duquesne Burch, III, in 1984, and her brother, Charles Tyrone Allen, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, in 2005. She grieved the recent death of her grandson-in-law, John Gary Wyatt, whom she loved dearly. She was the daughter of Helen Eloise and Cecil Robert Allen and the beloved daughter of Robert P. Womack after Cecil's passing. Evie attended Amite (Louisiana) High School and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, where she was a Chi Omega. She was devoted to her church, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for forty years. She was a charter member of the Faithful Followers Sunday School class. Hers was a beautiful example of a Christ-centered life, and she lived in the confidence of Romans 8:28, her favorite verse. Evelyn was elegant, kind, compassionate, and refined. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Burrett (Billy), of Oneonta and Lucy Shelton (John), of Prairie Village, Kansas; her grandchildren, Mary Burrett Wyatt, John William Burrett (Maggie), Lucy Tyrone Burrett, David Churchill Shelton, and Peter Churchill Shelton; her great-grandchildren, Mary Evelyn Epperson Wyatt, Viola Rose Catherine Wyatt, Jonah Day Burrett, and Woodrow Burch Burrett. She is also survived by her first cousin, Helen Tyrone Whitley, of Baton Rouge, whom she loved like a sister. Our family would like to thank St. Vincent's Home Health and Hospice for their tender care of our Evie.
