Johnie Ruth Garner McPhail

Funeral services were held Monday, February 23, 2009 at Bunker Hill Baptist Church in Columbia, MS for Mrs. Johnie Ruth Garner McPhail, age 93, of Carson, MS who passed away February 21, 2009 at The Myrtles in Columbia, MS. Internment followed at New Bunker Hill Cemetery. Rev. Randy Gardner and Rev. David Perry officiated. Pall bearers were Keith Armstrong, Clark Slonaker, Brett Robbins, Jeffery Lee, Marylyn Laird, Danny Wickes, Joe Loftin and Jeff Armstrong. Mrs. McPhail was born in rural Carson, MS on June 27, 1915, the daughter of John W. Garner and Clara Polk Garner. She was married to the late, Garland Leroy McPhail and had a son, James “Jimmy” McPhail. She was a graduate of Pearl River Junior College and attended Mississippi Normal College which is now USM. She was a former school teacher and retired as the owner of the Country Store. She was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, James L. “Jimmy” McPhail and wife, Becky of Carson; granddaughter, Lori Ann Niven and husband, Alan and a great granddaughter, Emily Grace Niven.
