Ingram Lamar Foster

Funeral services were held July 21, 2015 for Mr. Ingram Foster at Prentiss Baptist Church in Prentiss, MS. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Ben James and Dr. David Michel Officiated. Pallbearers were: Keith Bridges, Will Hathorn, Jimmy Jackson, Guy Mower, Billy Parish, Eddie Speights,Randy Stamps and Bill Whittington. onorary Pallbearers were: Ingram Foster Sunday School Class Members and the Deacons of Prentiss Baptist Church Ingram (Ing) Lamar Foster, Jr. was born on November 19, 1922 to Ingram Lamar Foster, Sr. and Ada Griffith Foster. He graduated from Prentiss High School and attended Mississippi College. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After returning from his tour of duty he graduated from Soule’ Business College in New Orleans, LA. He joined his father as co-owner of Jitney Jungle. He served as President of Jitney Jungle Operator’s Association. He later became owner and operator of Piggly Wiggly until his retirement in 1978. Ingram and his late wife, Bobbie Walden Foster were the proud parents of three children. The oldest, Ingram Lamar Foster, III passed away in 1974. Passionate about his faith, Ing was an active member of Prentiss Baptist Church for his entire life. He served the church in many capacities, including deacon, deacon chairman, Sunday School teacher for over 35 years, choir member and on many committees. He was a member of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board for 16 years and served on the Executive Committee of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. He was elected Vice President of the Board and served the convention as a member of the Executive Director Search Committee and as Chairman of the Budget Committee. Ing was also elected to the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention serving for 8 years. From this committee he served on the Southern Baptist Convention Foundation Board. He was also a member of the Baptist World Alliance. After retirement, Ing and his late wife, Bobbie made 10 Home Mission trips and 10 Foreign Mission trips. He was also very active in community activities, serving as Alderman of the Town of Prentiss, member of the Chamber of Commerce, being selected as Citizen of the Year, member of the Prentiss Lions’ Club. He served as Board member of Alltel Telephone Company and Board of Directors of Sunburst Bank and continuing on the Board when the bank became Regions Bank. He was also Area Finance Director of the Boy Scouts of America. A devoted family man, Ing married his childhood sweetheart on February 15, 1948. He is survived by a son, Ben (Joumana) Foster of Geneva, IL and a daughter, Jeannie (Robert) Jones of Prentiss, MS, three grandchildren, Garrett (Jenna) Jones of Collins, MS, Joseph Lamar and Shannon Marie Foster of Geneva, IL, three great grandchildren, Jackson Foster Jones, Samuel Christopher Jones and Madison Marie Jones all of Collins, MS and a very special friend and caretaker of 15 years, Ailene Ball. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Bobbie, his oldest son, Lamar, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ingram Lamar Foster, Sr. and two sisters, Mary Foster Mower and Jean Foster Womack.
