Jacqueline Irene Polk Funeral services were held Friday, February 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Brandon, MS for Ms. Jacqueline “Jackie” Irene Polk, age 87, of Brandon, who passed away on February 17, 2014 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Interment followed at the Prentiss Cemetery in Prentiss, MS. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Dr. Scott Thomas and Dr. Gene Henderson officiated. Pall bearers were Steve Buckner, Jim Dale, Robert Goff, Jr., Dale Polk, Dean Polk and Jeremy Polk. Jacqueline “Jackie” Irene Polk was born on August 7, 1926, in Prentiss, MS. She was the daughter of the late Brooks H. Polk, Sr. and the late Irene Dale Polk. Jackie graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Music. She served as Minister of Music in Baptist churches in Kentucky and Virginia before returning to her native state where she served in both Baptist and Presbyterian churches. Jackie taught music in the Brandon Public School System and is the author of Brandon High School’s Alma Mater. Jackie was a wonderful Christian, who was active in First Baptist Church of Brandon. She was a member of the choir and was active in and loved her Sunday School Class. Music was a great love of hers and she was a former member of the Mississippi Chorus and supported the Orpheus Vocal Competition in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Kathryn Ann Garrison of Murfreesboro, TN; Jerry Beth Delauney of Los Angeles, CA; Brooks H. Polk, Jr. of McComb, MS; Douglas Dale Polk, Sr. of Jackson, TN; and Pansy Donna Griffith of Rohnert Park, CA. She also leaves nephews and nieces Jim Garrison, Jr. of LaVerne, TN; Karen Goff of Germantown, TN; David Garrison of Newton, MA; Vickie Gibson of Moorpark, CA; Michelle Delauney, Andrew Delauney of Los Angeles, CA; Chris Polk of Atlanta, GA; Misty Buckner of Flowood, MS; Trae Polk of Baltimore, MD; Jeremy Polk of San Antonio, TX; Dale Polk of Jackson, TN; Dean Polk of Huntsville, AL; Daisy Polk of Starkville, MS; Angela Harris of Houston, TX; and Bryan Griffith of Rohnert Park, CA; along with great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Jackie to First Baptist Church of Brandon, Living Legacy Fund.
