Funeral services were held Monday, August 5, 2013 at Prentiss United Methodist Church in Prentiss, MS for Ms. Joyce Thompson, age 82, of Prentiss, who passed away on August 2, 2013 at JDCH Extended Care Facility in Prentiss, MS. Interment followed at Prentiss Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Sessions Polk officiated. Pall bearers were Charles Blackburn, Allen Blackburn, William Blackburn, Cody Blackburn, Foster Martin and Jared Martin. Ms. Betty Joyce Thompson was born in Silver Creek, MS March 24, 1931. She was the daughter of Clyde Thompson and Lela Waltman Thompson. Ms. Thompson attended Co-Lin Junior College and then Mississippi Southern College where she earned a degree in music and later attended William Carey College earning her Master’s Degree. She began her teaching career in Prentiss and taught public school music, voice and piano. She moved on to continue her teaching career in Pascagoula and later in Picayune. While in Picayune, she became Principal at Westside Elementary from which she retired after a forty five year career as an educator. Ms. Thompson was a forty year member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Sigma Chapter. She was also a member of Prentiss United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Ms. Thompson is survived by her sisters, Cleo Garraway of Bassfield, MS and Peggy Rathbun of New Hebron, MS; and her nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents.
