Byron Larue Mikell

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Larue Mikell, age 96, of Prentiss who passed away on May 23 at Covington County Hospital in Collins, MS. Interment followed at Brady Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Charles Burnham and Rev. Sonny Adkins officiated. Pall bearers were Dent Mikell, Mike Mikell, Rodney Rogers, Jimmy Howell, Brandon McNease and Chris Pipkie. Honorary pall bearers were Harry Carter and Wayne Harris. A native of Mississippi, Byron Larue Mikell was born on May 31, 1916. He was the son of Byron B. Mikell and Mary Benson Mikell. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked for Railway Express for 40 years, and retired as a Manager. He enjoyed farming and was a member of Whitesand Baptist Church. Mr. Mikell is survived by his wife, Allene Mikell of Prentiss, MS; his son, Burkett Mikell of Hattiesburg, MS; his step-son, Ronnie McNease of Prentiss, MS; his step-daughters, Virginia Boleware and Jane Carol Young both of Collins, MS; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Eugenia Mikell, four brothers, six sisters and three grandchildren.
