Edna "Nell" Thurman

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mrs. Edna “Nell” Thurman, age 93, of New Hebron, MS who passed away on May 6, 2013. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery. Rev. Duane Bradford, Rev. Will McNeese and Mr. Charner Little officiated. Pall bearers were Kenny Thurman, Eddie Thurman, Mike Sills, Wilson Purser, Wilson Purser Jr., Jake Magee and Tony Hollis. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. A native of Lawrence County, Edna “Nell” Thurman was born on March 12, 1920. She was the daughter of Thomas D. Berry and Minnie Grubbs Berry. She worked as a seamstress with New Hebron Manufacturing for many years. She was a faithful member of New Hebron Baptist Church for 73 years. Mrs. Thurman is survived by her son, Elmer Thurman of Canton, MS; her daughter, Sybil T. Sills of New Hebron, MS; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and her sister, June Berry Johnson of Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Burnis Thurman, one son, Edward Thurman and three brothers.
